The $$mu$$SR measurements in pulutonium metals are reported for the first time. The ground-state properties of Pu metal is not understood clearly. We found the upper limits of the ordered moment in $$alpha$$-Pu and $$delta$$-stabilized Pu is $$<10^{-3}mu_B$$ at $$sim$$4K.

In the huge volume of research on the cuprates, there is very little that investigates the properties of the highly overdoped area of the phase diagram, where superconductivity disappears with increased carrier concentration. In the spirit of further exploring this region, we have performed the first known $$mu$$SR measurements of heavily overdoped single-crystalline La$$_{2-x}$$Sr$$_{x}$$CuO$$_{4}$$. We discovered an anomalous field-induced broadening of the internal magnetic field distribution. The broadening is linear in applied field and has a Curie-Weiss temperature dependence. Furthermore, the effect increases with doping above $$x=0.12$$ and is maximal at our highest doping ($$x=0.3$$). Possible relaxation mechanisms are discussed.

Magnetic response in the superconducting state of $$1H$$-Ca(Al$$_{0.5}$$Si$$_{0.5}$$)$$_2$$ studied by $$mu$$SR

Magnetic field dependence of the effective penetration depth ($$lambda$$) determined by $$mu$$SR is reported for $$1H$$-Ca(Al$$_{0.5}$$Si$$_{0.5}$$)$$_2$$, a structurally new phase of Ca(Al$$_{0.5}$$Si$$_{0.5}$$)$$_2$$. The new phase has an AlB$$_2$$-type crystal structure with $$P$$3 symmetry which, in contrast to earlier reports, does not exhibit superlattice structure along the $$c$$-axis. The bulk susceptibility measurement indicates that the upper critical field is much lower than that in superstructured ones for both $$c$$- and $$a$$-axis directions. A weak anisotropy in the superconducting order parameter is suggested from the increase of $$lambda$$ with increasing external field.

A comprehensive magnetic and superconducting phase diagram determined by muon spin rotation/relaxation ($$mu$$SR) is presented for Ca$$_{2-x}$$Na$$_x$$CuO$$_2$$Br$$_2$$ which has apical bromine atoms. Evidence for antiferromagnetic (AF) order in lightly doped samples and that for quasi-static spin glass (SG)-like state in moderately doped ones are obtained by ZF-$$mu$$SR at low temperatures. While the phase diagram is qualitatively similar to that in typical 2-1-4 cuprates including Ca$$_{2-x}$$Na$$_x$$CuO$$_2$$Cl$$_2$$ and La$$_{2-x}$$Sr$$_x$$CuO$$_4$$, it exhibits a slight shift (expansion) over the $$x$$ axis.

The construction of the Materials and Life Science building was started in the beginning of the fiscal year of 2004. After commissioning of the accelerator and beam transport sections in 2008, muon beams will be available for users in 2009. In this letter, the latest construction status of the J-PARC Muon Science Facility is reported.

$$mu$$SR study of magnetic order in La$$_{2-x}$$Ba$$_x$$CuO$$_4$$ under high pressure

We have performed muon spin relaxation and resistivity measurements under high pressure in La$$_{2-x}$$Ba$$_x$$CuO$$_4$$ with x=0.125 and 0.135. With increasing pressure, the superconducting critical temperature increases for both samples. Even by applying pressure, static magnetic order still exists. This result indicates the LTT structure is not always necessary for stabilizing the static magnetic order. However, the magnetic volume fraction estimated is reduced by applying pressure. The reduction of the magnetic volume fraction for x=0.125 is less than that for x=0.135. This means hole concentration is one of the important factors for the appearance of the static magnetic order.

Zero-field $$mu$$SR measurements for an antiferromagnetic Mott insulator (BEDT-TTF)(TCNQ) were performed in order to study the microscopic magnetic properties of this organics. Slight increase of the relaxation rate is observed below 20K owing to the antiferromagnetic ordering of BEDT-TTF dimers, whereas clear muon precession signal is observed below 3K owing to the antiferromagnetic ordering of TCNQ. Below 3K, there exist at least two antiferromagnetic domains whose volume fractions changes with temperature.

$$mu$$SR study of an antiferromagnetic Mott insulator $$beta'$$-(BEDT-TTF)$$_2$$ICl$$_2$$

Zero-field $$mu$$SR measurements on the antiferromagnetic Mott insulator $$beta'$$-(BEDT-TTF)$$_2$$ICl$$_2$$ were performed in order to study themicroscopic magnetic properties of this organics. The volume fraction of the antiferromagnetic phase was found to be temperature independent. Muon precession frequency, which is proportional to the magnitude of the magnetic moment at the dimer of two BEDTTTF molecules, does not follow the simple model based on the mean-field approximation.

Longitudinal-field muon spin relaxation experiments have been carried out in the paramagnetic state of single-crystal Gd$$_2$$Ti$$_2$$O$$_7$$ just above the phase transition. At high applied fields the relaxation time is proportional to field. At low fields the relaxation rate increases markedly as the freezing temperature is approached. This behavior is consistent with the very long autocorrelation function cutoff time.

Transverse-field $$mu$$SR shifts and relaxation rates have been measured in the non-Fermi liquid alloy system UCu$$_{5-x}$$Pt$$_x$$. At low temperatures the fractional spread in Knight shifts is 2 for x=1, but is only half this value for x=1.5 and 2.5. In a disorder-driven scenario where the NFL behavior is due to a broadly distributed characteristic energy E, our results indicate that $$delta$$E/E$$_{av}sim(delta$$K/K)$$_{Trightarrow 0}$$ is similar for UCu$$_{5-x}$$Pd$$_x$$. Our results correlate with the observed suppression of other NFL anomaliess.

Longitudinal-field $$mu$$SR experiments have been performed in unannealed and annealed samples of the heavy-fermion compound UCu$$_4$$Pd to study the effect of disorder on non-Fermi liquid behavior in this material. The observed scaling exponent independent of annealing. Annealed samples exhibited a reduction of the relaxation rate at low temperatures, indicating that annealing shifts fluctuation noise power to higher frequencies. There was no tendency of the inhomogeneous spread in rates to decrease with annealing. The correlation with residual resistivity previously observed for a number of NFL heavy-electron materials is also found in the present work.
